The Ultimate Amalfi Coast Travel Guide

Updated: Aug 15

It is an undeniable statement that Italy has a special place in my heart. Because I’ve been to Italy three times in less than a year. Looking back, I think it is kind of crazy but I love every single minute of it and want to travel to Italy again.

This time, I travelled to the Amalfi Coast after attending my friend’s wedding in Porto, Portugal, since it is not far away. I visited Southern Italy's famous coastline, which includes the picturesque hilltop towns of Positano, Amalfi, Sorrento and Capri. For more inspiration, check out my guides to Amalfi Coast, and discover the hidden treasures of the terraced towns and villages along the way.

TO STAY

I stayed at an Airbnb in Positano, it’s a small family-run property with, a simple yet comfortable room. Every morning, you get to sit on their balcony and they serve you a rich local breakfast - a nice cup of coffee, freshly baked pastry, and egg omelette. What an amazing way to start your morning and then head off exploring Amalfi Coast.

I would recommend you stay in Positano (has my heart) or Sorrento, because this is where all the events/ shops are, stores and restaurants open till late, a lot happening in these two towns compared to the smaller towns.

TO EAT

I was being quite spontaneous with our food selections, I didn’t book anything in advance. As I want to try more different cuisine in town/ low-key local food spots, sometimes you get surprised without much planning.

Porta Marina Seafood

Porta Marina Seafood in Sorento is a must-try, it is located next to the seaside, and it took us a while to get to the beach. The food was heavenly, with a reasonable price, and fresh seafood ingredients. It was so relaxing to enjoy our lunch next to the sea, a very pleasant experience.

Le Sirenuse

The well-known Le Sirenuse is located in Positano. I know this hotel for the longest time, thanks to its beautiful interior and famous scenic view. It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you are there. I even questioned my eyes and wondered if this place is real. Perfect to see the sunset and enjoy a cup of cocktails. It was very peaceful and romantic, I had a fantastic time here.

No bookings are required, walk-ins only. The bar opens at 6 pm, and I would recommend you get there about 5 pm and start waiting so you can make sure to be the first guest to get in and pick a table of your preference.

TO SEE

1-Day Boat Trip

I booked a 1-day boat trip with XXX, £120 per person. Joined the 10 people group and the captain showed us around the whole Amalfi Coast and we had about 2 hours to stay and explore in Capri. Although the experience was nice, I would still recommend you guys book a private boat to travel with your friends/ significant other. I think the experience would be more flexible and you get to choose where you want to go/ stop to have a dip in the ocean.

Hotel Palazzo Murat

Hotel Palazzo Murat is a little oasis in the centre of Positano. I got attracted by its 19th-century residence architecture. I spent a few hours just relaxing and enjoying coffee in the afternoon. It is the perfect spot to just spend time appreciating the historical Italian architecture. Service was amazing and l literally teared up when the wonderful live music singer was performing my favourite song ‘Don’t Know Why by Nora Jones’. She has an ''angelic”-sounding singing voice.
