Lake Como Guide - Where To Eat And Visit

Updated: Aug 11

Lake Como has been a destination on my travel bucket list for the longest time. I love that it's not too much to do in Lake Como compared with a big metropolitan city. Therefore, I can focus on being present at the moment, reading a book of my choice, drinking hot chocolate by the lake, and enjoying the scenic ferry ride. Lake Como makes the perfect weekend getaway.

To Stay

We stayed at the Agriturismo La Derta for 3 days. It is a cosy, welcoming space, also a tiny farm. You’ll find all sorts of farm animals like chickens, sheep and dogs here. If you are an animal lover, this is the place for you. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the centre of Bellagio, which we don't mind for some extra steps.

TO EAT

Speaking about my favourite restaurant, I highly recommend a delightful pasta place called Dai Viga in Bellgio. Freshly cooked pasta, speedy service, best chef - we had the best time dining at this restaurant. We came back 3 times to try out different dishes. My favourite is the mushroom pasta, fresh, chewy, and flavourful. deliziosa!

TO SEE

There are quite a few things you can do in Lake Como, and visiting beautiful botanical gardens is a must-do. Please don't miss out! Just so you know most of the villas are closed/ only open at weekends (opening hour:10 am - 4 pm) in Winter because it is the off-peak season, make sure you plan out your visit before travelling. I was extremely lucky and managed to visit two this time.

Villa Melzi D'Eril

Breathtaking scenery that I will never forget for my 27th birthday. Set against the rolling hills of Bellagio, visitors can tour the villa can enjoy a stroll in the beautiful English gardens overlooking the lake. giardinidivillamelzi.it

Villa Monastero

Villa Monastero is located in the heart of Varenna. We took a scenic ferry trip from Bellagio to Varenna on a sunny morning. A visit here offers a glimpse into the lives of its former owners, as the house has been preserved with original furnishings from the 17th century. The gorgeous botanic garden is a must-see feature, would recommend ordering a hot cocoa and sitting by the lake. I found my peace in this beautiful botanic garden.
