What I Eat, Visit and Stay in Venice

Wandering around Venice feels like a dream, surrounded by the impossible blue of the canals, a special city, full of history and richness. One of a kind of city planning which you rarely see anywhere else in the world. Come and join me to see where I eat, visit and stay in this beautiful fantasy land, Venice, Italy.

Being brought up in Hong Kong, some parts of Venice remind me of Macao, which is quite interesting and hilarious. Because most Europeans and Brits would think The Venetian Macao (a 5-star luxury hotel in Macao) looks like Venice, and not vice versa.

I only spent 3 days 2 nights in Venice and it was more than enough to explore this water city. Transportation is easy and accessible, you can easily take buses to get to the island part from the city centre. Once you get to the island part, there are no cars at all, mainly get to places on walks. There are water buses and water taxis if needed. It costs about €9.50 to ride the Venice Water Bus and the ticket is valid for 75 minutes.

TO STAY

Basalto Venice Mestre

I enjoyed my stay at this service apartment which I found on Airbnb. Located right in the heart of Venice, next to a local market Mercato Coperto Mestre Alimentare. Of course, I took advantage of the location and bought some fresh olives and mushrooms for breakfast in the morning. It only takes a 20-minute bus ride to the canal side of Venice.

TO EAT

Venice M'Art

If I can use one word to describe this place, it would be....divine. A luxury hotel but it has its own concept store, fashion boutique, restaurant, and merch. My favourite part is their restaurant, the architecture is unbelievably beautiful and classy. Sitting by the water, looking at the wooden boats sailing through the canal and sunlight hitting the water. It was a perfect summer afternoon. Spaghetti alle vongole and their house white are the best combo! Highly recommended.

Address: Sestiere Cannaregio, 5631, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy

Trattoria Alla Fontana

Quiet Italian pasta restaurant next to the water. Pasta Allo Scoglio (Seafood pasta) and Tiramisu were great but skip the Tuna Tartar. Live Bandoneon music performance added an extra Italian touch.

Address: Fondamenta Cannaregio, 1102, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy

Trattoria Bar Pontini

Another popular restaurant by the canal. Don't miss out on their Spaghetti al nero di seppia (Spaghetti with Squid Ink).

Address: Cannaregio, 1268, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy

Pasticceria Martini

A random cafe I found on my last day in Venice. The richness of the tiramisu and the smoothest espresso were mind-blowing. It was indeed a pleasant surprise.

Address: Cannaregio, 1302, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy

TO SEE

Despar Teatro Italia

The most beautiful and the fanciest supermarket I've ever seen. It used to be a theatre inaugurated on March 2, 1916, designed by designer, Dominico Mocellin and architect, Giovanni Sardi.

Address: Campiello de l'Anconeta, 1939-1952, 30121 Venezia VE, Italy

Fondaco Dei Tedeschi by DFS

Make sure you visit the rooftop where you can oversee the breathtaking view of Venice. Big shout out to luxury fashion lovers, it has a great selection of luxury labels if you are up for a shopping spree.

Address: Calle del Fontego dei Tedeschi, Ponte di Rialto, 30100 Venezia VE, Italy
